Tom Carle is an emerging tenor extolled for his "tremendous enthusiasm, massive smile and bright, powerful voice."  Having graduated from Westminster Choir College in May 2016 with a Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy, Tom actively performs internationally and teaches in the New York and New Jersey areas.

On the operatic stage, Tom most recently appeared as “Ferrando” in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte with Opera on the James and “Giuseppe” in Verdi’s La traviata with Sarasota Opera.  Other opera credits include “Tom Rakewell” in Brooklyn Opera’s The Rake’s Progress, “Fenton” in Westminster Opera Theater’s production of Falstaff, “Drunken Man” in The Little Prince with Opera Fayetteville, “Tamino” in Mozart’s The Magic Flute with Bucknell University Opera Company, and “King Kaspar” in Amahl and the Night Visitors with Susquehanna Valley Chorale.  Operetta and Musical Theater credits include “Captain Ladislaw” in Herbert’s Lady of the Slipper, “Von Asterberg” in

Romberg’s The Student Prince, “Jacey Squires” in Willson’s The Music Man, and “Ritz Quartet” in Porter’s Anything Goes with The Ohio Light Opera.

Tom frequently appears as a concert soloist at Sarasota Opera and with ensembles such as The Unity Choir and Sussex County Oratorio Society in the New York metro area.  He has been a featured soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Handel’s Messiah, Beethoven’s Mass in C, and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater.

In addition to operatic and concert work, Tom is involved with numerous music projects.  He recently recorded an album with Paragon Ragtime Orchestra and Grammy winning producer, Judith Sherman.  The album, released in December 2015, features popular and lost tunes written by popular ragtime composer, Irving Berlin. His most recent projects included winter and fall residencies with Sarasota Opera and an April 2018 recital featuring art songs composed by Brahms and Schumann.

"Tom Carle sang Tom Rakewell with clear diction, earnest self-confidence and a hearty, assertive tenor.”

-Parterre Box

Tenor Tom Carle was a potent Barry O’Day, playing up his tremendous enthusiasm with a massive smile and bright, powerful voice. In Carle’s interpretation, there was simply nothing this hero couldn’t do.  From wooing any woman he pleased, to dancing about his comrades to dominating in a duel to singing luxurious phrases with beaming high notes, Carle looked unstoppable throughout the evening

Voice Lessons Flyer (2).png

I teach voice lessons to instill a love of music in the hearts of students young and old.  In voice lessons, each student learns to love his or her unique voice and gains the ability to use it as a tool for artistic expression.

However, students gain even more from a musical education.  They develop valuable skills related to fields outside singing such as research, self-esteem, and work-ethic.  My duty as a teacher is to help each student achieve his or her full potential as a singer, musician, and person.

My teaching guides students in the refinement of an individual sound and healthy, consistent technique. In order to achieve these goals, I help each student develop individualized strategies which improve technical mastery, and, thus, artistic expression.

Such strategies include personalized vocal exercises which target vocal shortcomings, honest and caring feedback, technically guided repertoire, and carefully developed practice.

Each student learns differently.  Therefore, I personalize lessons and cater teaching strategies to individual learning styles. For example, I present technical ideas physically, audibly, and kinesthetically.  This way each student develops a personalized vocal language to apply during practice.

Each singer IS his or her own instrument.  Therefore, singing is not only extremely difficult to master but also an extremely personal, and, consequently, vulnerable activity.  It is my job to be sensitive to these vulnerabilities and to become a trusted mentor, technician, and adviser.  A sense of trust and respect fosters great results and allows students to feel comfortable in the studio.

I hope each student develops a sense of confidence in my studio - confidence in his or her singing ability but also, more broadly, confidence in his or herself.  Each student must use vocal technique to develop a “tool box” of vocal solutions.  As time goes on, I hope students are able to apply these tools independently and with great aptitude. My ultimate objective is to help students develop these strategies to fulfill individual goals as a musician, then allow them to thrive independently with poise and tenacity.

Piano Studio

In addition to voice lessons, I teach piano to beginning and intermediate students.  Much like my approach to teaching voice, my approach to teaching piano is individualized and holistic.  I believe in creating well rounded pianists of any age and cater exercises and repertoire to individual learning styles: visual, audio, or kinesthetic.
Students can expect to have a great deal of fun in piano lessons with me!  Together, we will dance, sing, learn, and create!  My goal is that each student learns strategies to transform the most difficult practice session into a fun practice session.  A student should love the piano and feel fulfilled by his or her music making!
